Since being able to drive the hilux surf I've found it a solid, smooth handling vehicle, the 2.7 petrol engine has plenty of power for the size of the vehicle. Great for a 4 cylinder engine, runs well and clean burning. Plenty of room for the whanau and dog. Not the latest technology wagon but it has a classic feel to it. Great to drive and comfortable interior.

I recently purchased a Surf Hilux because I needed a safe, reliable vehicle with more space, a higher seat for my back (easier to get in & out vehicle), and something that I can sleep in when going camping. I used to drive a little sedan and was worried about the size of the Surf, but I find it surprisingly easy to drive. Easier to see out of the windows than the sedan. Even easier to reverse. It ticks all the boxes re higher seats, lots of room, good safety rating and I will easily be able to sleep in it when seats are folded down. Everyone knows how reliable the Toyota engines are. So far I am happy with the performance. It is too early for me to give comprehensive feedback on that because I haven’t had time to take it off road and/or haven’t driven it long distance yet. But so far I am absolutely thrilled with my Surf and can’t wait to hit the open road and go camping.
